It may be down to the final four dancers on this season of "So You

SYTYCD tour rolls across the country this fall. Tickets go on sale this
weekend, so get on it! I'm dying to see my faves Joshua and Katee
perform live, and I'm totally looking forward to seeing some of the
dancers that didn't make it to next Wednesday's finale.

Man arrested over beating death at Lil' Kim party

NEW YORK (Reuters) - A New York City nightclub worker has confessed to beating a woman to death during a Sunday night birthday celebration for rapper Lil' Kim, the police commissioner said.

Rahman Syed, 24, was arrested at his home on Thursday after the body of Ingrid Rivera, also 24, was found stuffed in a rooftop utility room on Wednesday afternoon.

No charges have been laid but Syed, a bartender's assistant at the Spotlight Live club in Times Square, admitted killing Rivera, New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said.

Rivera was last seen at Spotlight Live, where bouncers kicked her out because she was drunk. Police said that was when Rivera met Syed, who offered to take her to find a friend.

Syed hit Rivera with a metal pipe in the building's elevator shed in the early hours of Monday after she refused his advances, police said.

When Rivera did not come home, her family filed a missing persons report. Police were unable to find the woman, despite searching the club, until a maintenance man discovered her body in the rooftop room more than two days after her death.

Spotlight Live representatives did not return calls for comment.

"We will be taking a very focused look at that club," said Kelly. "These are advertised events. It was not a private party."

Kelly estimated about 500 people were at the club at the time of Rivera's death.

Lil' Kim, whose real name is Kimberly Jones, celebrated her 34th birthday with fellow celebrities including Missy Elliot, Busta Rhymes, Lamar Odom and Wyclef Jean, according to the New York Daily News.

Kelly said the Grammy Award-winning rapper will not be interviewed in connection with the crime. Lil' Kim's publicist was not immediately available to comment on the woman's death.

Lil' Kim served a year and a day in prison in 2005 when she was found guilty of conspiracy and perjury after lying to a grand jury about her friends' involvement in a 2001 shooting.

Nissan Ad Causes 'Outrage' in Arab World: Video

The ad is supposed to be funny, but it plays on old Arab stereotypes. In the commercial, the actors playing the Arab Shieks say the car has "destroyed my home," and they direct hatred toward the car saying, "May hawks poke at you day and night," and "May the sun melt you and God take you."

As the ad comes to a close, the announcer declares "when you consume the least fuel, it's obvious they won't like you in the oil emirates."

The Saudi regime, along with other oil-producing Gulf states, is threatening to boycott Nissan -- which is collaborating on the development of the Project Better Place electric car system in Israel -- if the automaker doesn't apologize.

Bush Arrives In China After Criticizing Nation

(UPI) – President George Bush arrived in Beijing Thursday for the Summer Olympics amid criticism over his remarks concerning China's human rights policy.

In a message to China on the eve of the Olympics, Bush urged improved human rights to make China great.

"The United States believes the people of China deserve the fundamental liberty that is the natural right of all human beings," Bush said in a speech Wednesday at a state dinner in Bangkok, Thailand.

"America stands in firm opposition to China's detention of political dissidents and human rights advocates and religious activists," he said. "We speak out for a free press, freedom of assembly and labor rights not to antagonize China's leaders, but because trusting its people with greater freedom is the only way for China to develop its full potential.

"We press for openness and justice not to impose our beliefs, but to allow the Chinese people to express theirs. As Chinese scientist Xu Liangying has said: 'Human nature is universal and needs to pursue freedom and equality.'"

China reacted to the criticism, saying the United States and China should discuss the issue "on an equal footing," Xinhua, the official Chinese news agency, reported.

Ne-Yo Moves Mom To Be Near Him

Rapper Ne-Yo is so attached to his mother, he has bought her a new home in Atlanta, Georgia so they can be closer.

The Las Vegas, Nevada native has moved east to concentrate on his music - but found himself lost without his beloved mom.

So he has splashed out on a house for her. The 25-year-old reveals, "I just moved my mom out to Atlanta with me. I bought her a townhouse, so I don't have to go too far. She's my closest companion."

Lopez Won't Testify In Combs Shooting Lawsuit

Jennifer Lopez will not be forced to testify in a lawsuit filed against her ex Sean 'Diddy' Combs over his involvement in a 1999 New York club shooting.

The singer/actress was dating the hip-hop mogul at the time of the incident, and was present at the now-defunct Club New York when shots were fired in the venue on December 27, 1999, injuring two people.

Combs' rap protege Shyne, real name Jamal Barrow, is currently serving a 10-year jail term after he was found guilty of assault, reckless endangerment and gun possession in the trial following the shooting.

The rap heavyweight was arrested for various charges including weapons violations, but was acquitted of all counts.

Combs and Shyne are currently fighting a $130 million civil suit filed by victim Natania Reuben, who was shot in the face during the incident.

Lopez - who was not called as a witness in the 2001 criminal trial - was subpoenaed by Reuben's attorneys in June, and was due to give her deposition on Tuesday.

But according to website TMZ.com, Lopez had "nothing to contribute" to the case, and her deposition was canceled indefinitely - news which has been confirmed by Reuben's lawyer.

The Latina split from Combs shortly after the shooting trial.

Pussycat Dolls Cover Up for Asia Performance

The Pussycat Dolls were careful not to launch into any provocative dance routines during the MTV Asia awards in Malaysia on Saturday - insisting they have a new found "respect for the culture" in the country.

The girl band came under fire from authorities there following a gig last year, with officials branding their raunchy performances and skimpy stage costumes offensive to Muslims in the country.

The group's concert promoter also landed a $3,000 fine.

But the "Buttons" hitmakers were back in Malaysia this weekend to perform at the prestigious music awards ceremony - but the stars took care to cover up and tone down their routines for the occasion.

Pussycat Dolls member Jessica Sutta tells MTVAsia.com, "We are better prepared this time to perform in Malaysia and we have deep respect for the culture. It is about the music, not about sexy. We are going to respect the people of this country and the culture."

Rep: Mac Responding Well to Treatment

CHICAGO, Aug. 4 (UPI) -- Hospitalized Bernie Mac is responding well to treatment for pneumonia, the Chicago comedian and actor's publicist says.

The 50-year-old performer is best known for his work on "The Bernie Mac Show," as well as for his roles in the films "Transformers," "Head of State," "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle" and "Ocean's Eleven" and its two sequels.

A source told the Chicago Sun-Times that Mac was in "very, very critical condition" Saturday.

Although his publicist Danica Smith said the next day that Mac remained "in the same condition," she also said he is responding well to treatment and is expected to leave the hospital soon, the Sun-Times said Monday.

"It's funny because everybody always wants to talk about, you know, 'Bow Wow doesn't curse. He's clean,' which is true," he explained. "I think a lot of people that are jumping on Bow Wow now are new people, and if you listen to my first album, I was being bad on my first album. Being that that's the first album, a lot of people probably didn't catch on then. But I was already saying words at 13 that I probably shouldn't be saying. If you go back and listen to my first album, every song is bleeped out. You'll notice words that are being bleeped out. Now it's really nothing, and I'm looking at y'all like, 'What's the big fuss about?' Like I said, that's just me being me. I'm not saying that my album is profane. I still gotta remember about the little kids.

"It's kinda tough to walk it," he continued, talking about straddling the line between being a grown-up and still appealing to the youth. "I still have the younger generation. The younger kids look up to me. Then again, I have that other fanbase who was with me from the jump who are now adults too. And it's almost like I gotta cater to both, but if I miss one of 'em, they'll go find that other person to fill that slot."

From adult music to adult films? No, not really. Bow isn't doing X-rated movies, but he did have to take his clothes off and lay down with a porn star for role as a comedian on "Entourage."

"I know the girls, they're going to go crazy when they see it," he said of his appearance on the HBO series. "The ladies are gonna go crazy when they see Bow Wow's first sex scene. It's crazy 'cause for me, it was normal. It was normal, but I know when I look back at it, when I see it, I'm gonna be like, 'Damn! Look at this. This is crazy!' I stun myself sometimes, I can't even front.

"It was with a porn star. I don't know her name," he said of the actress. "She probably watching this like, 'What?! I did a scene with him, and he doesn't remember my name?!' Nah, I don't remember her name, but she was bad though. She was baaaaad! I was cool. I was comfortable with it. I was definitely comfortable with it. It is what it is — normal stuff that happens."

The fifth season of "Entourage" debuts in September. Meanwhile, Bow has been trying to warm things up for his LP. He just released the videos for "Big Bank Take Lil Bank" and the Soulja Boy-featuring "Marco Polo."

Style Jury: Victoria’s Secret Show HBCUs Love

I usually by my “night clothes” and High School Musical lounge wear straight off the clearance rack at Wal-Mart but I have plenty of friends who shop religiously at Victor’s Lies for gear.

The popular lingerie store rolled out its nationwide collegiate collection in June, featuring the names and logos of some 33 universities on sweats, hoodies, football tees, and totes, the promotion didn’t include any historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs). This fall, the brand plans to include five HBCUs in the second phase of its collegiate collection.

According to Dent, the first HBCU schools that will roll off the Pink line will be Howard University, Florida A&M University, Hampton University, North Carolina A&T University, and Southern University. “We have agreements with the licensees who handle collegiate apparel for those schools, and this has been in the works for some time,” he says. Dent adds that the company plans to include students from the schools in internships at Victoria’s Secret, and feature promotions at their homecoming events.

Pink, a collection of loungewear geared toward young, college-aged women, first appeared in Victoria’s Secret stores in 2004. Since then, the brand has solidified its success within the parent company, Limited Brands, a retailing behemoth that includes Bath & Body Works and Henri Bendel. Dent says he didn’t view Reid’s Facebook group negatively. “We encourage people to be vocal [about our product],” he says. “Victoria’s Secret and Pink’s mission is to have relationships with our customers.” [SOURCE]

MOVIE ROUNDUP: ‘PRINCESS & THE FROG’ / ‘THE SECRET LIFE OF BEES’ / EDDIE’S NEW FILM GETS NO LOVE

Disney released the teaser trailer for their 48th animated musical “The Princess and the Frog” this week. The film based off the classic fairy tale The Frog Princess, is set in New Orleans during the 1920s with Disney’s first Black princess Tiana (voiced by Anika Noni Rose).

Also lending their voices to the film are Angela Bassett, Jenifer Lewis, and Keith David. The movie is set to hit theaters on Christmas of 2009…

Another teaser released this week was for the film “The Secret Life Of Bees”, with a phenomenal cast including Jennifer Hudson, Queen Latifah, Sophie Okonedo, and Alicia Keys.

Adapted by the original novel, the film is tells the story of Lily Owens, a 14 year-old girl who is haunted by the memory of her late mother (Burton). To escape her lonely and troubled life, Lily flees with Rosaleen (Hudson), her caregiver and only friend, to a South Carolina town that holds the secret to her mother’s past and is taken in by the Boatwright sisters.

Though Eddie Murphy new film “Meet Dave” was already released on July 11th (who knew right?), the film has already broke record.

In its 3rd weekend, it broke the record for being biggest theater
drops in wide release ever, losing 2,523 theaters from its 3,011
theaters the week before. It grossed an estimated $5,300,000 when it
took reportedly $55 million to make, not to mention the film got no
love from critics. Looks like its back to the drawing board for Eddie....

OBAMA DENOUNCES LUDA’S LYRICS

Ludacris, a strong supporter of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, has released a new song titled “Politics: Obama Is Here”.

However, Obama, who once said he had Ludacris in heavy rotation on his iPod, is not too happy with him. The song praises Obama, but bitterly attacks Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton and John McCain.
“Hillary hated on you, so that bitch is irrelevant,” say the lyrics.
“McCain don’t belong in any chair unless he’s paralyzed.” Luda calls on
voters to “paint the White House black” and adds that “Bush is mentally
handicapped.”

The Obama campaign issued the following statement:

“As Barack Obama has said many, many times in the past,
rap lyrics today too often perpetuate misogyny, materialism, and
degrading images that he doesn’t want his daughters or any children
exposed to. This song is not only outrageously offensive to Senator
Clinton, Reverend Jackson, Senator McCain, and President Bush, it is
offensive to all of us who are trying to raise our children with the
values we hold dear. While Ludacris is a talented individual he should

SPOTTED: RIHANNA OUT & ABOUT IN NYC

Rihanna was spotted out and about in NYC Wednesday night (sans Chris Brown) dining out at her favorite spot the Da Silvana restaurant in the West Village. She was spotted leaving the restaurant with BET personality Rocsi, dressed casually in jeans with a white sleeveless top/scarf combo.

After heading back and changing clothes, she came out in a very revealing black tank top and a Herve Leger bandage mini skirt in pink and silver. I could have sworn I saw her rock it in another color? Tianna?! lol…

Trina + Kenyon Martin Involved In Car Crash

Trina and NBA player Kenyon Martin were involved in an accident last night in Belize in which two children, ages 12 and nine were injured.

According to a report by News 7 in Belize, a green minivan crashed into the passenger side of a white Excursion, which Martin and Trina were riding in.

“As we were coming down from the airport trailing behind the vehicles we see the white car that Trina and Kenyon Martin were travelling in was cutting across and the same time a green van came and they hit each other and they went straight across and one of the children nearly came out of the vehicle because of the impact,” Raymond Martin, a witness to the accident said. “It was very very hard and horrifying and hmmm, I still left stunned right now.”

The driver of the Excursion, JA Jex, suffered minor injuries.

George Abraham, the driver of the green minivan was shocked and angered after the accident took place. His eldest child, Delane had to be carried away on a stretcher. Abraham’s other son, was also hurt.

“I was on my right hand side and this vehicle overtake on this side. That guy was in the wrong in that vehicle. I was on my correct hand. Ahh my shoulder,” Abraham told News 7.

Trina and Martin left in another vehicle and were not hurt in the accident. The pair is in Belize for the weekend attending a Hip Hop peace rally and celebrity basketball game. [source]

Convicted felon Clifford has joined forces with the Hip Hop Caucus to launch a new voter registration and Get Out the Vote campaign. I wonder if they have an XL t-shirt with him holding a registration card in one hand and a Mac-11 in the other. Look at me giving away creative ideas.

Plies Is A Fraud too?

Just on the heels of Rick Ross being exposed for lying about his past in law enforcement, the folks over at Hip Hop DX has discovered that Plies may be a fraud as well. Although Plies who proclaims himself a “goon affiliated, ex-drug dealer”, raps about a criminal past, his records show that he hadn’t had any run ins with the laws until after his records were made.

HipHopDX has obtained documentation from the state of Florida that lists the “definition of real” rapper’s first real run-in with the law to have not taken place until two years ago, on April 12, 2006, when Plies - real name Algernod Lanier Washington, born May 22, 1976 - would have been on the eve of his 30th birthday and just beginning his ascension to his current status of gold-certified rap star.

But there are the occasional past tense references to what appear to be claims of his own criminal activity. One glaring example can be found during his lament on the suffering his alleged criminal activities caused his mother on “Runnin My Momma Crazy,” in which he recollects: “Remember the nights, me sittin’ up in a cold cell/I’m wakin’ ya up out’cha sleep, it’s me callin’ you from jail.” While passionate, his verse’s claim that he was ever in a “cold cell” now appears to be untruthful, as according to the FDLE’s report Plies was never in jail for any period of time prior to 2006. Samuel Raynard Jones, 20, was sentenced Wednesday to 30 years in prison
for shooting a rival during a rap battle in a Haltom City
field.According to witnesses Jones and the victim, Christopher Smith,
17, met for a rap battle late one night in September 2006. The battle
went down in a field between an apartment complex and a church.

Smith rapped first. After he finished, Jones walked toward him
rapping and pointing a handgun at him, according to an affidavit. Jones
then gave his gun to one of the witnesses and began a fistfight with
Smith.

When the fight ended, Smith began looking for his personal
belongings. Witnesses said they heard a single gunshot and watched
Smith fall to the ground.

All of the witnesses ran, police said. Smith’s body was found the next day with a gunshot wound in the head.

I’ve heard of a hot 16 but this is just disturbing. Is CNN going to talk about this tonight on Being Black In America?

My Thought On Gas Prices....

I wish gas prices were $6, hell, $8 a gallon. You know why? Because then companies would stop fucking around and put all their effort into inventing a car that gets 100 miles per gallon. That’s all I want, just 100. Don’t even think for a second that it can’t be done. It hasn’t been done yet because A. No company cares enough to devote 100% of their energy and resources to making it happen, and B. As gas prices rise, oil companies are reaping hundreds of billions of dollars, squeezing every last penny out of every man, woman, and child in the modern world, and I’m sure they are paying people off left and right to keep it that way.

Don’t tell me it can’t be done. Right this second there is this little robot tootling around in the dirt of Mars digging little holes and making little sand castles and analyzing soil. Think about that, it’s going on RIGHT…NOW… And you telling me that my little Saturn Ion cannot possibly go from point A to point B for less than what it costs right now? Please.

I hope gas prices hits 8 dollars per gallon, because then people will CARE enough to come up with a solution.

I’m hoping that this isn’t the first single from the album, and I’m thinking that it won’t be. We’ll see, CiCi.

I think that this could have made the cut for the rerelease of the album - regardless of how much I hate rereleases. This song definitely fits in the feel of the Forever Edition, however something about it feels unfinished. The vocals on the chorus sound nothing like Chris.

Rapper Nas will join members of ColorOfChange.org & MoveOn.org on Wednesday to deliver 620,127 petition signatures demanding that FOX end its pattern of racist attacks against Black Americans including presidential candidate Barack Obama and his wife Michelle. The group will make the delivery Wednesday, July 23rd at FOX in Manhattan.

Over the last several weeks, FOX has had a string of incidents that many believe are a veiled attempt to prey on racism and intolerance and cast the Obamas as “outsiders”: an on-screen graphic referred to Mrs. Obama as “Obama’s baby mama,” a pundit “confused” Obama with Osama and then joked they should both be assassinated, and an anchor called a loving fist bump between Barack and Michelle a “terrorist fist jab.” In February, Bill O’Reilly talked about calling a “lynching party” to deal with Michelle.

Nas recently released a single and accompanying video entitled, “Sly Fox” to bring light to Fox’s unprofessional antics.

CITIES CRACK DOWN ON SAGGING

Flint Police Chief David Dicks stops two boys for wearing saggy pants this month.

Various cities across the United States have been cracking down on youngsters who like to wear saggy pants.

Eugene Williams is the mayor of Lynwood (in South Chicago), says young men walk around town half-dressed, keeping major retailers and economic development away. He calls the new law a hot topic. The American Civil Liberties Union says the ordinance targets young men of color.

Young adults in the village, like 21-year-old Joe Klomes, say the new law infringes on their personal style. He says leaders should instead spend money on making the area look nicer.

In Flint, Michigan, Flint Police Chief David Dicks (pictured above) has said he will not back down from his policy of filing disorderly conduct or indecent exposure charges against those whose saggy pants allow too much underwear or their bottoms to show on city streets (view video).

In response, the American Civil Liberties Union’s Michigan chapter told the Free Press on Monday that it is now looking for targets of the policy to talk with the organization. The ACLU has called the city ordinance unconstitutional.

“We are confident that young men in Flint will contact us now that the chief has announced that he won’t budge,” Michael J. Steinberg, legal director of the state ACLU, said Monday. “If they do, we’ll sue. We may have the dubious distinction of being the first saggy pants lawsuit in the country.” [ READ MORE ]
